Two buildings, one West Seattle vibe

Maris was built for those who seek the peaceful coastal culture of West Seattle, coupled with the convenience of being near a vibrant downtown city life. It is a gateway community, highly visible near the intersection of Fauntleroy Way Southwest and Southwest Alaska Street. Our challenge in designing this project was to create two buildings that have separate identities, but that share amenities and property management.

Conveying a complementary design language

The two different buildings transition from a higher-density neighborhood along Fauntleroy Way Southwest to a lower-density neighborhood toward the east. Although a very large project, the mass of the larger building is successfully broken down into an appropriate scale that—along with the smaller building—retains a cohesive design language. The building forms create outdoor spaces oriented in multiple directions, each providing unique experiences for residents.

Oasis at the epicenter

Maris is in the middle of everything West Seattle has to offer. It provides convenient access to neighborhood restaurants, cafes and stores, as well as public transportation to downtown. Building amenities include a fitness room, a media room, a rooftop deck and a wifi cafe.

Program: A smaller building with 50 residential apartments, one live-work unit, structured parking for 23 vehicles. A larger building with 239 apartments, 16 live-work units, 10,000 sf of commercial retail space, parking for 230 vehicles.
